For
teenagers, sex is considered as an emotionally powerful experience, combined
with risks and psychological changes. The average age of first sexual
intercourse in the United States is 17.0 for males and 17.3 for females. By the time they are high school seniors, 66%
of girls and nearly 63% of boys report they have had intercourse. Among younger
teens, the majority claim to be virgins, and this percentage has risen over
time. Factors that correlate with teen sexual activity include:
1. Individual
2. Family
3. Community
4. Unwanted
initial sexual intercourse
Besides vaginal sex
also teen oral sex. Researchers at the
University of California, San Francisco believe that some teens, and
particularly girls, engage in oral sex as a way to avoid vaginal intercourse.
New York Times columnist David Brooks has written, "Reports of an epidemic
of teenage oral sex are .. greatly exaggerated" Researchers believe that
oral sex may have become more popular than intercourse for adolescents because
teens believe it carries fewer physical and emotional risks, a claim one study
supports.
Reflection:
Overall
it is a good article because the article tells us about the sex life among
adolescents who has become a tradition. The data and the percentage make the
contents of the article is valid. Article is clear and easily understood.
Teenage life is a crucial period of
the next life. When this teenage years run well then certainly the next life
will be good too. And the possibility it could happen also on the attitude of
one’s own maturity. Adolescents in this world must be having a strong
curiosity. They want to know what they do not know and after they know about it
they want to know more. That is teenager. As they want to know what sex is,
promiscuity, drugs, etc. Most of them for the first time just try. Then if
he/she can not control it will inevitably feel always do. As a teenager the
facts exist in developing countries. Most of them do things that are negative,
such as doing free sex with a girlfriend, friend, even with people they do not
know.
Sense
of their desires they can not control, they do what they want without thinking
it through again. That was proven with the data they sexual behavior is very
high. They have sex because of individuals themselves, families, communities,
the environment they live. But i think it also depends on how we respond it. We
can not have sex with a positive thinking about what the benefits of sex and
think of what the benefits and consequences of sex connected it self. Teenagers
should not feel ashamed for not following the trend that all people have sex
like vaginal sex or oral sex. I do not agree with the words teenagers are
mostly about “the pregnancy was easy to be prevented by using this and that”.
All
these are tools and equipment that could not work at anytime. Although the doer
of sexual activity use condom, she was not necessarily protected from
pregnancy. Facts show that condoms can leak and it could result in pregnancy.
After finding out they were pregnant. Are they happy? Certainly not, if they were not ready
and having sex before marriage, they whould get streesed. The conclusion is all
that can be avoided by never enganging in sex with the opposite sex. It should
be done if it was about time.
My close friend have been
there. as a teenager, grade 3 Jenior
High School, she was having sex
with her girlfriend. So, she could not continue her education. Then she got married
and have families with a state that are not ready because she was so young.
So,
for all teenage if you not ready to get marry don’t try and for those who just
want to try, think before doing it.
